Introduction

Nutrition is a multifaceted field that often hides surprising facts about foods, combinations and effects. Many people come to me with questions about nutrients, their selection and their effects on everyday life. It is exciting to see how small changes or new information can change the way we look at food. In the following, you will find practical inspirations that support a differentiated approach to a balanced diet.

Variety of nutrient-rich foods

Watercress is an exceptionally nutritious plant. Despite its pungency and intense flavour, it is often overlooked. Just 100 grams contains a large proportion of the daily requirement of vitamin C and other micronutrients. This opens up interesting possibilities for adding flavour and nutrients to dishes. In addition to the well-known garden cress, watercress is a nutrient-intensive alternative that is often discussed in coaching sessions.

One customer integrated watercress into her salads and smoothies, reporting positive impulses in terms of her general well-being and an increased enjoyment of fresh meals. Small amounts were used as a flavour highlight without having to make major changes to their diet.

Conscious use of calories and energy sources

Calories are by no means just "good" or "bad" units. In coaching conversations, it often becomes clear that many people associate calories negatively, but they can also be very nutritious. Foods such as avocados, dates or pulses such as lentils provide plenty of energy and valuable nutrients at the same time. They therefore provide a basis on which different nutritional goals can be built.

One client discovered a way to make his meals more filling by consciously integrating lentils into his diet. The practice showed that such pulses not only satiate, but also support the energy balance, which is particularly important in an active lifestyle.

Another practical application shows how oatmeal can be consumed as an inexpensive and versatile source of energy in various breakfast options. Chewing and conscious eating is usually more helpful than quick alternatives such as smoothies to promote a feeling of fullness.

Combinations as the key to a varied diet

Studies show that people often instinctively combine meals in such a way that they take in different micronutrients. Typical combinations such as fish with rice or curry with vegetables do not appear random, but reflect a certain natural nutritional intelligence. Such combinations can also be used in everyday life to integrate a variety of nutrients in as balanced a way as possible.

During coaching, the idea arose to evaluate meal combinations more consciously and to optimise the taste and variety of nutrients by making small adjustments. For example, one client combined different types of vegetables with protein-rich foods without changing the meals - the choice alone led to greater satisfaction and a better overall feeling.

Adding ingredients such as berries or nuts can also add flavour and nutritional value without making the preparation time-consuming.

Misunderstandings and surprising insights

There are many widespread ideas that should be considered in more detail. For example, the assumption that we need to drink exactly eight glasses of water a day is not necessarily scientifically proven. Raw vegetables can also be contaminated with bacteria despite being washed - which makes hygiene measures necessary.

Another surprising fact: some nuts contain fewer calories than stated on the packaging, which can influence the estimation of portion sizes. The fact that some fruits are botanically part of the rose family also makes it clear how colourful and varied nature's nutritional gifts are.

Practical tips for everyday life

Integrating protein-rich foods such as low-fat quark or high-fat varieties of cheese into salads can add new flavour accents and ensure a long-lasting feeling of satiety. Seasonal berries are also suitable both as a snack and as an addition to meals, which is often described as pleasant and revitalising.

One client explored the impact of small changes to breakfast by combining low-fat quark with fresh berries. These stimuli led to a more conscious enjoyment and the person also reported more stable energy throughout the morning without feeling deprived.

Sautéing vegetables in butter is another way of influencing flavour and nutrients in a targeted way - which can serve as valuable inspiration when preparing versatile meals.

My analysis

Coaching often shows that it is less about strict rules or dogmas and more about personalised support and the perception of impulses that enrich your own everyday life. Dealing with surprising nutrition-related facts opens up new perspectives and helps you to find your own way in the complex cosmos of nutrition. Small practical examples illustrate how nutrition can be used to support personal development without making "healing promises" or universal guarantees.
