Last week, protesters in San Francisco blocked the path of commuter buses taking workers to Silicon Valley. The protesters claimed that the tech sector was destroying their city and stacked electric scooters in front of the buses, which were travelling to GoogleApple and other high-tech companies.
Although these companies have brought San Francisco enormous success and wealth, prices have skyrocketed, especially for real estate. Homelessness has also skyrocketed, and the lack of affordable housing throughout the city has lengthened commute times. The growing dissatisfaction in the Bay Area can be seen in the results of the a new survey reading .
The survey, conducted by the advocacy group Bay Area Council, found that 46 percent of voters plan to move away. That's a significant increase from 2016, when 34 percent of respondents agreed they would move away because of the situation. Although the Bay Area is at full employment, only a quarter of respondents say the economy is moving in the right direction.
