Americans spent $36 billion on video games in 2017

Over the next few days, thousands of insiders the video game industry and game fans to this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) to the Los Angeles Convention Centre. The annual trade show, organised by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), is the world's largest event for computer and video games, where many of the industry's biggest players showcase their latest products. While many people still dismiss video games as child's play, that couldn't be further from the truth.
According to ESA the average male video gamer in the US is 32 years old and the average female gamer is even older at 36. And that's not all: video games are a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States. more than 200,000 jobs offers. As the chart below shows, consumer spending on video games, hardware and accessories in the United States reached a record $36 billion last year. In the coming days, game publishers, console manufacturers and other industry players will do their best to get gamers to spend even more in 2018.
