Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) (Glossary)

(1071)

The term Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) is particularly at home in the fields of automation, industry and Factory 4.0 as well as robots. Autonomous Mobile Robots are self-propelled robots that can move through an environment without human assistance. They use sensors, cameras and special software to recognise obstacles and find the best route.

In contrast to traditional conveyor belts or simple transport systems, autonomous mobile robots can be used flexibly. They can take on various tasks, such as transporting goods within a warehouse or production hall. What makes them special: They adapt spontaneously to changes, for example if an aisle is blocked, they independently search for a new route.

An illustrative example: In modern logistics centres, autonomous mobile robots move boxes from a storage rack to the packing area without humans having to control them. This saves time and reduces errors, making the entire working environment more efficient and safer.

Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) are an important building block for the digitalisation of production and logistics processes. Companies that use such robots benefit from greater flexibility and lower costs.
