The 2nd phase: onset of stress and self-doubt

We have now reached an important point on our journey through the various stages of burnout: the 2nd phase of the onset of stress and the first self-doubt. This phase is particularly insidious, as it often behaves like an inconspicuous fire smouldering quietly beneath the surface. Initially, the flames are barely recognisable, hidden behind the façade of everyday exhaustion and life's little worries. Many overlook these subtle signs, which slowly but surely spread. Like sparks glowing unrecognised in dry undergrowth, these first moments of stress and doubt can spread unnoticed. And then finally ignite a blazing fire that is difficult to control. In this dangerous silence lies an urgent call to us all to notice and take action. Before the flames consume our sense of well-being.

Recognise the signs in the 2nd phase:

In this 2nd phase of the burnout process, the first signs appear, namely the onset of stress and self-doubt. These can look like the following:

  • They are more easily and quickly irritated
  • You feel a little more anxious than normal
  • They begin to question their abilities
  • They are less motivated
  • You feel more tired and this tiredness can no longer be alleviated by sleep or rest
miReiki method as an aid in the 2nd phase:

miReiki can improve your overall sense of well-being by balancing the body's energy. Incorporating miReiki into your day can help you find a deep sense of calm and relieve any tension that arises. Feel free to start your day with a short miReiki self-treatment and start the day full of energy.

Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle: According to Ayurveda, our daily routine and diet have a great influence on our physical and emotional well-being. One of the things you can do to prevent stress is to strengthen your constitution through routines and dietary changes.

You can ensure a better night's sleep with essential oils. Lavender oil is known to improve sleep. Before going to bed, rubbing 3-4 drops of lavender oil into your hands and breathing deeply can help. Meditation and yoga practice are effective strategies for reducing stress. Not only can they increase your strength, but they can also help you overcome self-doubt and gain mental clarity.

What does the miReiki method consist of?

The miReiki method is a holistic coaching system for everyone that increases energy, mental clarity and physical performance.

Reiki: energy work to release blockages & reduce stress.
Yoga and meditation: physical strength, mental clarity & resilience.
Aromatherapy: Essential oils for focus, relaxation & energy.

What are the characteristics of the 2nd burnout phase according to science?

The 2nd phase of burnout is characterised by increased work commitment and the first signs of burnout[2]. In this phase, those affected try to fulfil their own high expectations by investing even more time and energy in their work[2][7].

  • Strong Commitment: Those affected often work very long hours and do a lot of overtime[7].
  • Perfectionism: There is a strong urge to do the job particularly well[7].
  • Feelings of guilt: If work is left undone, those affected develop a guilty conscience[7].
  • Neglect of personal needs: Hobbies and social contacts are increasingly neglected[2][5].

Recognition features

The 2nd phase of burnout can be recognised by the following signs:

  1. Increasing fatigue: Increasing exhaustion occurs[2].
  2. Increased irritabilityit: Those affected react more sensitively to stress and strain[2][9].
  3. Poor sleep: It is difficult to switch off after work, which can lead to poor sleep[9].
  4. Neglect of leisure time: hobbies and social contacts are put on the back burner in favour of work[5][9].
  5. Physical symptoms: Initial physical symptoms such as headaches or digestive problems may occur[1][8].

It is important to note that this phase is a critical time to intervene preventively and avoid complete burnout[2]. A burnout test or a discussion with specialists can be helpful in this phase to check your own state of health and take measures if necessary[2][9].
