The term Carbon Neutrality is particularly at home in the areas of Sustainability and Environment 4.0, Digital Transformation and Industry and Factory 4.0. It is about completely offsetting the amount of CO₂ that a company, an organisation or even an individual product causes. This is usually achieved through a combination of reducing emissions and offsetting unavoidable emissions, for example by investing in climate protection projects.
Imagine a company produces machines. To achieve carbon neutrality, the first step is to calculate how much CO₂ is generated during production, transport and use. In the second step, processes are optimised to generate less CO₂ - for example by using renewable energies. The company offsets the remaining emissions by planting trees or investing in wind power, for example.
Carbon neutrality is now an important goal for companies that want to take responsibility for the environment and score points with their customers. More and more consumers are attaching importance to how sustainable products and services really are.
