In Neflental, summer begins with a glorious high. The sun is like a golden ball in the sky, giving everyone light and warmth. The fields glow in sunny gold, while rivers and lakes sparkle in sapphire blue, emerald green and coral red. Everywhere the inhabitants of the valley celebrate the summer festival. They sit on the banks of the crystal-clear waters, colourful lanterns float through the twilight like little moons. There is great joy as all the animals and gnomes come together to enjoy the long, bright days. And Flamebush Grove soon shines in its most splendid red colour.

A special gift at a glittering high

One day, when the party was at its height, Rosa Periwinkle crept along the edge of the fern meadows. She was enjoying the lights and sounds of the dancing children. But suddenly she heard a soft sigh from behind the flamebush grove. The bushes there were already glowing bright red, as if someone had lit a fire. Rosa Periwinkle followed the sighing. She spotted a little Flossian crouching sadly at the edge of a bush. His skin gleamed like sapphire in the light, but his eyes were full of sorrow.

She asked kindly: "Why are you so sad on such a beautiful day?" The Flossian explained: "I accidentally injured the flame bush while making a lantern. Now the bush is bleeding red drops and I'm afraid I've spoilt the festival."

Achieving great things with small deeds

Rosa Immergrün took the time to listen quietly. That was her first small act, because sorrow often becomes easier when someone listens. Together they walked back to the flame bush grove. Rosa Periwinkle spoke softly to the bushes, for she knew the language of plants. She carefully placed her hand on the injured area. The periwinkle's friends quickly rushed over because they had seen that help was needed. Together they collected dewy leaves from the fern meadows. The Buchians brought soft moss bandages and a Flossian sang a soft song of comfort by the river.

Many small gestures resulted in a great help. The shrub gratefully accepted the care. Soon it looked as if its red leaves were dancing with joy again. The party could go on. Nobody scolded the little Flossian because they understood: Everyone makes mistakes once in a while, but consideration and solidarity are more important. So in the evening, everyone laughed and danced on the shore again. They saw lanterns floating in all the colours of the valley. The glow of the fire was reflected on the river like a heart-shaped light.

The magic of consideration in everyday life

At Neflental, residents realise time and again that everyone can achieve great things with consideration and a little help. When someone is sad, others give them a hug. They listen, comfort and help where they can. Sometimes a kind word, a shared biscuit or a fine leaf of moss is enough to make someone smile again. Rosa Immergrün always does this in her everyday life: she asks questions, helps others and brings different people together.
