Rafael Nadal once again crowned himself king of the clay courts on Sunday with his 11th French Open title at the Stade Roland Garros. At the age of 32, the Spaniard was one size too big for his 24-year-old opponent Dominic Thiem in a one-sided match that ended 6:4, 6:3 and 6:2 after two hours and 42 minutes.
Nadal's 11th Roland Garros title, his 17th Grand Slam title overall, brings him back to within three titles of Roger Federer, who skipped the clay court season this year but will return to defend his title at Wimbledon in July.
As the following chart shows, Federer and Nadal are in a league of their own when it comes to Grand Slam titles. Novak Djokovic, the only active player who can even come close to equalling Federer and Nadal's trophy collection, has not won a Grand Slam title since the 2016 French Open and it seems unlikely that he can win another eight to match Federer's historic mark.
