Stories from the Neflental: Experience empathy and friendship

The Neflental valley is at its peak. The summer sun bathes the valley in a golden light. The colours shimmer everywhere: sun gold, sapphire blue, coral red and emerald green. The crystal-clear rivers glisten like dancing sparks of fire. The inhabitants sit on the banks and celebrate happily. Colourful lanterns float slowly in the twilight. Music and laughter fill the air. But in the midst of this colourful hustle and bustle, Rosa Periwinkle is thinking about something important: How do you make real friends? Can compassion help?

The starry meadow at its peak

One evening, Rosa Immergrün decides to go to the Sternenwiese. This lonely high alpine pasture lies far up, far away from the hustle and bustle and the revellers. At night, small, phosphorescent flowers bloom there. Their lights flicker like a starry sky on the ground and lend the place a very special magic. Pink evergreens reach the meadow as the sun slowly sets and the light on the plateau glows golden and warm.

Rosa Periwinkle notices a figure at the edge of the starry meadow. It is Lumo, a young Flossian. Lumo sits alone and looks sadly at the sparkling flowers. Rosa Periwinkle senses that something is bothering Lumo. She walks slowly to him and sits quietly next to him.

Showing compassion makes all the difference

"You're so quiet today, Lumo. Is everything all right?" asks Rosa Periwinkle gently. Lumo hesitates at first, but then gathers all his courage. He says quietly: "I just don't feel like I belong today. Nobody had time to listen to me at the festival by the river." Rosa Periwinkle nods sympathetically and immediately senses how sad he is. She puts a hand on Lumo's shoulder and says: "Sometimes it's hard to open up. But everything is easier together."

Together they look at the starry meadow, where the glowing flowers appear in the darkness. The flowers remind Lumo of the hope that someone is there when you need them.

Empathy connects hearts

Rosa Periwinkle listens attentively to Lumo and asks him about his thoughts. She speaks honestly about her own insecurities. "You know, sometimes I feel alone too. But sometimes a conversation helps and the feeling goes away." This shows Lumo that compassion connects the two of them. No one is always strong, and sometimes everyone just needs someone to listen. Simple words and a friendly smile often work wonders.

Lumo soon calms down. He smiles timidly and says thank you. "Thank you, pink periwinkle. I think that's exactly what I needed." The two friends sit in the starry meadow for a long time and watch as the little flowers continue to glow. Rosa Periwinkle smiles too, because she can feel how friendship grows from compassion.

What do we learn from this?

Compassion, i.e. empathy, is like magic in Neflental. Those who listen and ask honest questions, those who encourage others, make real friends. The meadow of stars shines particularly brightly at the height of its splendour because friendship can develop there. Everyone in Neflental experiences how important it is to listen to and empathise with one another. Those who help others feel richer and happier themselves. Even at the most colourful party under the glittering summer sun, the brightest moments are those when hearts meet. And when Rosa Periwinkle walks back from the starry meadow at night, she knows: Friendship always begins with a little spark of compassion.
