Courage to tell the truth in the Buchian beech forest
The day starts in a very special way in the Neflental valley. Today, the twilight run is calling and a magical atmosphere lies over the valley. Trees bend in the violet-pink haze. The golden autumn leaves dance like fire above the Buchian beech forest. Nobody wants to miss the twilight run! Rosa Immergrün is up early because she loves the stories from Lake Neflen. At this time of year, floating mirrors appear in the twilight run and time seems strangely sluggish. Some show winter, while others suddenly show summer. A light mist envelops everything in shades of purple, rose and grey-silver.
The big nut festival
In the heart of the beech forest, the Buchians are preparing for the great beech nut festival. They live in caves under the mighty trunk roots. Now everyone is busy collecting nuts, telling old stories and laughing. On this day, the whole village community eats together and the colourful foliage underfoot glows in the mild light of the twilight. Rosa Periwinkle helps out everywhere because she likes her friends and the colourful hustle and bustle always makes her happy.
The missing nut
Shortly before the festival, the biggest, most beautiful beech nut disappears! It was supposed to be the centrepiece of the festival today. Great excitement ensues as everyone wants to solve the mystery. The Buchian elders are sad because this nut was supposed to bring good luck. Many of the villagers start searching immediately, hoping to find the nut. Some give each other strange looks as they quickly look for suspects.
In the midst of the fog of excitement
As the fog thickens in the beech forest, Rosa Periwinkle discovers a strange trail in the dewy leaves. She follows it, although her heart beats a little faster. Suddenly she is standing in front of one of the floating mirrors and sees several images at the same time: in one, the little nut is dancing on a branch, in the other it is hiding in a tree hollow. Rosa Periwinkle trusts her courage. She decides to follow the silvery light.
In a hollow between two roots, she finally discovers the little nut - and next to it sits the little Buchian Julo with a sad face. "I just wanted to look at it for a moment because it's so beautiful," he says quietly. "Then it fell and rolled away."
Courage to tell the truth
Rosa Periwinkle looks kindly at Julo. She knows that honesty takes courage, especially on such an important day. "You have to tell the truth," she says encouragingly. "The Buchians are honest and always help each other." They walk back to the village together. Julo is trembling a little, but he feels stronger with Rosa Periwinkle.
Julo steps forward carefully in front of everyone and tells the story. The Buchians listen, some nod. The eldest smiles. "Those who are honest place their trust in the Buchian beech forest. Thanks to you, Julo, and also to you, Rosa Periwinkle, we are celebrating a festival full of heart today." Now the children cheer, because everyone can admire the beautiful beech nut. No one grumbles and Julo feels relieved. The party is happier than ever.
What do we learn from this?
In the long twilight run of the Neflen valley, where colours and dreams mingle, the Buchians and Rosa Periwinkle have learned something important. Those who stand by their truth and are honest remain strong at heart. The courage to tell the truth creates friendship, trust and joy in the Buchian beech forest. Celebrating together is twice as much fun!
