The Digital Product Passport is particularly at home in the areas of Industry and Factory 4.0, Sustainability and Environment 4.0 and Digital Transformation. It describes a digital document that contains all the important information about a specific product - from its manufacture and the materials used to repairs or recycling options.

With a digital product passport, manufacturers, retailers and end customers can easily understand where a product comes from, how it was produced and, in the best case scenario, how it can be reused or recycled. This makes the entire life history of a product transparent.

An illustrative example: A company manufactures refrigerators. Each refrigerator is given its own digital product passport, which can be called up using a QR code. This stores information about the manufacturer, the components installed and the energy efficiency. If a repair is required, this is recorded digitally. This allows subsequent owners or recycling companies to see exactly what was done to the appliance and when, and what materials it is made of.

The Digital Product Pass therefore supports sustainable consumption and helps to save resources - for companies and consumers alike.
