Achieving everything with self-discipline - a story from the Neflental valley
The village of Farnwiesen von Immergrün is located in the Neflental valley. Gentle, lush green meadows stretch as far as the eye can see. Giant eagle ferns, three metres high, sway in the wind and look like a sea of green. Wooden houses with woven walls duck between the thick fern stalks. Herb gardens with fragrant lavender and colourful clover grow on their roofs.
The meadow gnomes with moss-green skin run barefoot through the tall grass. Goats and chickens frolic in small enclosures. It is autumn in the Neflental valley and the colours are particularly beautiful. The leaves glow ruby red and sunshine yellow. The sky is often midnight blue and the meadows glow emerald green.
Discover self-discipline in the lampion grove
One evening, the gnomes met in the lantern grove. Colourful lanterns hung between tall, dark cedars. They danced gently in the warm evening breeze. The gnomes sat under the trees in festive dress. They drank sweet nectar and laughed together.
Rosa Periwinkle was also sitting there. She admired all the colours around her: ruby red, emerald, sunshine yellow and the deep night blue. But she was thinking about something else. Rosa really wanted to learn to play the guitar. She had often practised, but sometimes she became impatient. She wanted to be able to play a song straight away, but her fingers were still untrained.
The decision
That evening, Rosa took her little guitar out of her rucksack. She set herself a goal. "I want to practise every day, even if it's hard," she said quietly to herself. She knew that the other gnomes often played outside or raced goats. It would have been easy to distract herself. But self-discipline was to become her new superpower.
It wasn't easy for Rosa on the first day. The sun was shining warmly and her friends called her to play. She stayed strong, sat down in a quiet corner of the fern meadows and practised her fingerings diligently. Some notes still sounded wrong, but she didn't give up.
Persevere with self-discipline
Rosa practised a little more every day. Sometimes her arm trembled, sometimes she was tired. But she always remembered why she was practising. She remembered her dream of her own song. She used her superpower, even when the wind rustled the wooden houses or the call of friends beckoned.
The other gnomes soon noticed. They marvelled at her perseverance. Even the older gnomes, who had lived in Fern Meadows for a long time, smiled proudly. They knew exactly how hard it is sometimes to keep going and pursue a goal.
On the big evening in the lantern grove
When the festival began in the lantern grove, sparkling lanterns hung everywhere. The humans and gnomes appeared in colourful dresses. They drank sweet nectar and waited in anticipation. Rosa picked up her guitar and stepped forward. She could feel the stage fright, but she remembered her self-discipline.
She played the song she had learnt. The notes sounded clear and beautiful. Everyone listened attentively. At the end, the whole valley clapped. Rosa was beaming. She had made it with her superpower. She wasn't at the top of the highest mountain, but she had discovered a new strength in herself. Self-discipline makes possible what at first seems impossible.
