It refers to robots that can recognise human emotions, react to them and adapt their behaviour accordingly. The goal: more natural and effective collaboration between humans and machines.
Emotion-sensitive robotics uses sensors, cameras and special algorithms to recognise and interpret facial expressions, tone of voice or body language. For example, the robot can recognise whether a person is stressed, happy or annoyed. The machine then adapts its behaviour accordingly.
An illustrative example: In a modern factory, a robot works right next to people on the assembly line. If the robot notices that an employee appears stressed, it can adjust its working method at short notice or suggest a break. In the care sector, emotion-sensitive robots recognise when patients are sad or anxious and react sensitively.
With emotion-sensitive robotics, interactions with machines become much more pleasant and can respond to users' individual needs - a major step towards the digitalisation of working and living environments.
