Management development is a key challenge for companies today

Management development is becoming increasingly important as the demands placed on managers are constantly changing due to digital transformation. Especially in times of advancing automation and digitalisation, companies are looking for ways to prepare managers for new challenges and expand their skills. This is not just about traditional management skills, but above all about strengthening competences in dealing with new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).

Needs analysis as the basis for management development

An essential step in leadership development is to carefully analyse the needs. Companies evaluate which leadership competences are currently lacking and which will be in demand in the future. This ensures that development programmes have a targeted and sustainable impact. Companies often report that the integration of AI expertise has become an important aspect of remaining fit for the future and actively shaping change.

KIROI BEST PRACTICE at company XYZ (name changed due to NDA contract) In a manufacturing company, a systematic development plan was used to supplement management development with AI training. Managers completed practical training sessions in which AI-supported tools for process optimisation were presented and applied. This helped managers to better understand technological innovations and utilise them as opportunities.

Individual development plans with a focus on AI competences

The needs analysis is followed by the creation of individual development plans. In addition to traditional management modules, these increasingly include AI training programmes. For example, managers can learn how to use AI tools sensibly and ethically responsibly in their day-to-day work, for example to improve decision-making processes based on data. Coaching supports managers in developing these new skills and transferring them to real projects.

KIROI BEST PRACTICE at ABC (name changed due to NDA contract) In a service company, managers were supported with virtual training formats that integrated AI applications for customer analysis and reporting. This enabled managers to better guide their teams in the use of digital tools and actively promote digital transformation.

A variety of methods to strengthen management development

There are many different methods of leadership development. In addition to traditional training and coaching, AI-supported learning formats are increasingly being used. These include interactive simulation games that train the real-life handling of AI-based decisions and virtual workshops that use digital tools to strengthen teamwork and communication. The variety of formats enables companies to efficiently address different types of learners and achieve sustainable learning success.

KIROI BEST PRACTICE at DEF (name changed due to NDA contract) A medium-sized technology company used immersive VR sessions combined with AI-based scenarios to prepare managers for complex situations. The realistic training environment made it possible to develop leadership skills that promote dealing with uncertainties and dynamic changes.

Support and monitoring as key elements

Management development does not end with training. Continuous support and regular measurements of success are crucial in order to visualise progress and make adjustments where necessary. In practice, there are always challenges because success is often difficult to measure. However, a well-structured feedback system and the integration of digital monitoring tools make it possible to establish relevant, measurable indicators for skills development.

Impetus through coaching and AI-supported tools

External support from experienced coaches can provide impetus for management development and support the integration of AI competences. Coaching encourages reflection on one's own leadership styles and provides practical approaches to the application of new technologies. Clients often report improved confidence and clarity in dealing with AI as well as a strengthened ability to shape change processes in the team.

My analysis

Today, leadership development is inextricably linked to the strengthening of AI competences. Companies that systematically and individually support their managers in this process create the basis for sustainable success and innovative ability. The combination of needs analysis, customised development plans, diverse methods, continuous support and professional coaching forms a holistic approach. KIROI coaching can accompany this change by providing impetus for the integration of AI and the human aspect of leadership.
