Winter awakens in the Neflental valley
In Neflental, snow lay on the fern leaves and the woods were silent. Winter had transformed everything. The peaks of the Crystal Ridge shone in the morning light. Ice and snow shone crystal clear, sometimes as if in steel grey, sometimes sky blue or snow white.
On this winter morning, Rosa Periwinkle trudged across the glistening meadows. She wanted to hike to the rainbow falls. Rainbows of all colours swayed in the spray of the waterfall. The animals and children of Neflental loved this place. But today was different.
Cold and a problem at the crystal ridge
Rosa Periwinkle came to the foot of the crystal ridge. The wind was so icy that even the tracks in the snow were quickly blown away. Suddenly she heard a cry. It sounded like help! Rosa Periwinkle ran over and saw that a little Flossian was stuck in a crevasse in the ice. He had tried to find a shortcut to the Rainbow Falls, but the ice was too slippery and he slipped in.
She didn't think twice. Rosa Periwinkle beckoned to the periwinkles playing nearby. "Come quickly! Together we can help!" she shouted loudly. The periwinkles ran over. Everyone brought something with them: a sturdy branch, a strong rope or courage and a lot of patience.
Strong together: helpfulness at the waterfall
They joined forces to throw the rope to the Flossian. Rosa Periwinkle encouraged him. "You can do it! We won't leave you alone!". The periwinkles pulled and pulled. Because they worked together, the little Flossian slowly came out of the crevice. He was free at last!
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The Flossian thanked them and was very happy. They laughed together. Rosa Periwinkle said: "We could never have done it on our own. Because we helped each other, it worked!" And everyone knew it was true.
The rainbow falls celebrate friendship
They travelled together to the rainbow falls. There, the most beautiful colours played in the spray mist. Rosa Periwinkle laughed when she saw the rainbows. "Everyone can do something, and together we can change the world!" she shouted into the wind. The others nodded.
They helped each other onto the slippery stones. They laughed, sang and danced in the glistening snow. Colourful lights stood above the waterfalls and the sun conjured up new rainbows in the air.
They had shown: If you help and make friends, you can do anything. On this day, everyone in Neflental realised how important helpfulness is.
What do we learn from this?
Helpfulness changes the world. When you help someone, you are never alone because others are helping you. Together, everyone is strong. Sometimes life is like the crystal ridge: it's cold and difficult. But together you can overcome even the highest towers of ice. And in the end, everyone sees the rainbow.
