IoT-supported predictive maintenance is particularly at home in the areas of Industry and Factory 4.0, the Internet of Things and automation. This means that modern machines are networked with each other via the Internet of Things (IoT) and are constantly sending and receiving data.

Predictive maintenance uses sensors and clever software to monitor machine data in real time. This allows early indications of potential malfunctions to be recognised. Instead of carrying out maintenance regularly or only in the event of a breakdown, targeted intervention can be carried out before any real damage occurs.

One example: In a car factory, all important production machines are equipped with sensors. A sensor detects unusual vibrations on a screwdriving machine. Before it fails completely and production stops, maintenance is automatically initiated. This saves companies time and money and avoids unexpected production stops.

IoT-supported predictive maintenance therefore enables companies to reduce maintenance costs, increase safety and keep operations running smoothly. This is an important step towards a modern, efficient and digitalised industry.
