Despite several reports suggesting "weak demand" for the iPhone X, Apple's most expensive smartphone model to date is proving to be very popular. Recent estimates from IHS Markit Apple shipped 12.7 million units of its flagship device in the first three months of 2018, making the iPhone X the most popular phone in the world.
Even though the number of devices shipped is well below what Apple achieved a year earlier with the iPhone 7 Plus (18.3 million), it is still remarkable that the ultra-modern (and expensive) iPhone X has beaten every other model on the market. Samsung's most popular model was the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus, an entry-level model that costs less than 150 US dollars.
As our chart illustrates, the dominant Apple and Samsung IHS cites the delay in the release of new models as a probable reason for the absence of mobile phones from Chinese manufacturers in the list.
