Latency-aware AI is a term that is primarily used in the fields of artificial intelligence, automation, industry and Factory 4.0. It describes AI systems that are optimised to react particularly quickly and without any noticeable delay.
In many modern applications, speed is of the essence. Imagine an AI system monitoring machines in a factory and having to react immediately if a fault occurs - for example, if a robot arm suddenly stops. There must be no long waiting times ("latency") here, otherwise production could come to a standstill or errors could be overlooked. Latency-aware AI therefore analyses data and makes decisions as quickly as possible.
Latency-aware AI is also important in other areas, such as autonomous vehicles. If an obstacle appears, braking or evasive manoeuvres must be initiated without delay.
To summarise: Latency-aware AI helps to ensure that critical processes can be monitored and controlled in real time. This ensures greater safety, efficiency and a better user experience in many digital and automated working environments.
