KIROI 9: Leadership development through targeted skills development

Targeted skills development as the key to leadership development

The sustainable development of managers is based on targeted skills development that is individually tailored to the needs and challenges of managers. Many managers are looking for support to expand their skills, particularly in dealing with new technologies and complex team structures. With targeted impulses and methodological diversity, managers can be supported in their growth process in order to fulfil their role more effectively and meet the demands of a dynamic working environment.

Individual support as the core of effective management development

Many managers report that they benefit in particular from personal coaching and mentoring as part of their development. Coaching sessions are used to create individual development plans and work specifically on the respective challenges. In addition to traditional leadership skills, the focus is increasingly on digital skills and the sensible use of AI tools. For example, managers can learn how to make data-based decisions and take ethical aspects of digitalisation into account.

KIROI BEST PRACTICE at ABC (name changed due to NDA contract) Managers in a service sector were supported with virtual training sessions that integrated AI tools for customer analysis and reporting. This targeted support enabled managers to better instruct their teams in the use of digital tools and actively support the transformation towards a data-driven way of working.

This kind of individual support not only helps managers to acquire new skills, but also to apply them in their day-to-day work and thus bring about real change in the company.

Variety of methods: focus on practical learning

There are many different methods for developing managers, ranging from traditional training courses to online courses and interactive simulations. Role plays and practical exercises allow managers to practise realistic scenarios, such as negotiation situations or team conflicts. Digital formats and AI-supported learning environments in particular offer new opportunities to master complex situations with confidence.

KIROI BEST PRACTICE at DEF (name changed due to NDA contract) A technology company used immersive VR training in conjunction with AI scenarios to prepare managers for complex, rapidly changing situations. This promoted expertise in dealing with uncertainties and dynamic change processes.

Feedback programmes, in which feedback is obtained from various hierarchical levels and employees, also open up new perspectives for managers on their external impact. This reflective component is an important building block for continuous improvement and sustainable learning.

Development of key competences for a modern management culture

In addition to specialised knowledge, key skills that are strengthened as part of the development process include, above all, social skills such as strong communication, conflict management and decisiveness. Especially in times of rapid technological developments, the ability to accompany change must also be developed. Time and again, targeted impulses through coaching and mentoring not only impart knowledge, but also encourage people to break new ground in their day-to-day management work.

KIROI BEST PRACTICE at GHI (name changed due to NDA contract) A manager in a medium-sized company was supported over several months. Individual coaching sessions were used to develop digital skills and communication skills in a targeted manner in order to successfully organise leadership in hybrid working environments.

Many managers report that this practical support helps them to better manage the complexity of their role and at the same time motivate their team.

My analysis

Leadership development through targeted skills development creates the basis for today's managers to not only react, but to proactively shape. The combination of individual support, methodological diversity and a focus on digital and social skills promotes sustainable learning processes. This makes it possible to prepare managers for the challenges of the modern working world and effectively support them in their growth.
