KIROI Step 9: Rethink management development

4.5
(1524)

Today, management development means more than just traditional training programmes. Companies are increasingly reporting that they need to rethink their programmes in order to meet current challenges. Leadership development is therefore playing a central role in shaping sustainable and effective leadership cultures. This article explains practical approaches and examples of how leadership development can be rethought and how transruptions coaching can provide impetus.

Leadership development: modern methods and their practical implementation

The transformation of management development from pure training to integrative, implementation-orientated concepts is noticeable. The combination of different methods allows for individualised and sustainable support. It is often shown that the impact increases significantly when formal training programmes such as seminars and workshops are combined with on-the-job learning, for example mentoring and coaching.

An example applies to a manufacturing company: The managers go through a programme consisting of online modules on theory, followed by face-to-face workshops and subsequent coaching to apply the content in everyday life. This creates both knowledge and confidence in practical implementation, which strengthens self-confidence and leadership skills.

A second example from the IT sector shows how job rotation is used by young managers in different departments to broaden their perspectives and promote a holistic understanding of management. At the same time, 360-degree feedback is used here to provide participants with comprehensive feedback from employees, colleagues and superiors in order to identify specific areas for development.

Companies in the service sector also rely on action learning: small groups work on real projects, which allows problems to be tackled in a solution-orientated way and simultaneously strengthens skills. This practical learning is directly applicable and supports sustainable changes in behaviour.

The importance of the individual change journey

Leadership development is closely linked to the personal change process of the manager. Many programmes are based on the so-called “change journey”, which comprises four central phases: Mindset Change, Behavioural Change, Expanding Comfort Zone and Excellence Leadership. These phases describe the path from a conscious mindset through routine to sustainable leadership excellence.

A manager from the financial sector who works on her new challenges in hybrid teams with the support of coaching has reported that this development process has significantly improved her communication and decision-making. The coaching enabled her to establish new ways of thinking and implement these in a targeted manner in her day-to-day work.

Another case from a medium-sized industrial company illustrates how targeted self-reflection and practice-orientated training transformed a manager from a purely professional to an integrative leader. This significantly improved teamwork and increased employee satisfaction.

An international retail company also regularly reports that managers gain more confidence in dealing with complex change processes through structured development programmes. This includes both the use of digital tools and the management of intercultural teams.

Practical support through transruption coaching for management development

Transruption coaching positions itself as targeted support in management development. It supports managers not only in acquiring knowledge, but above all in managing specific projects and changes. The coaching offers impulses and scope for reflection in order to find individual solutions and effectively shape one's own leadership behaviour.

BEST PRACTICE with a customer (name concealed due to NDA contract): In a large corporation, transruption coaching was used to support managers in setting up agile project management. The managers received support in questioning established thought patterns and trying out new ways of communicating. This led to greater motivation and improved team dynamics in a previously stagnating area.

Another example comes from the pharmaceutical industry, where managers were supported with the introduction of digital processes. During the coaching process, individual fears were addressed and practical strategies for implementation were developed, which accelerated and stabilised the change process.

Finally, transruptions coaching also supports the development of leadership tips for challenging situations such as conflict management or crisis communication. Regular reflection and practical case work help you to act more routinely and promote an open management culture.

My analysis

Leadership development should be understood as a holistic and dynamic process. The combination of formal and informal learning formats, adapted to individual needs and the specific context, promotes sustainable change. Methods such as coaching, mentoring and practice-integrated learning are becoming increasingly important because they provide targeted support for application in day-to-day management.

The management development supported by transruptions-Coaching not only creates competence profiles, but also lays the foundations for effective action in complex and constantly changing working environments. Companies that develop their managers in this way support stable management structures in the long term and thus the success of their entire team.
