Loyalty in the Buchenwald: The autumn secret of Sturmsang!
The sun sends the last warm rays through the dense canopy of leaves, while the beech forest of the Buchians in the Neflental valley is in the full glory of autumn. Leaves shimmer everywhere in copper, cinnamon, purple and misty grey. Pink evergreens move carefully through the rustling leaves and breathe in the spicy scent of the forest.
It is the time of stormsong, when the winds sing and the dancing leaves whirl through the air in little spirals of wind. Every step crackles because the leaves are so dry and colourful. Rosa Immergrün can hear the murmurs and whispers of the old storytellers from afar, their ghostly silhouettes shining between the trunks. Their stories glow like sparks floating through the twilight forest.
Secret meeting place in the Neflental
Rosa Immergrün and her friends often meet in the afternoon at the mossy root of an ancient beech tree. The wind plays with her hair and sings its song to Sturmsang. The groups sit together and tell each other stories, but today it's about a special topic. Rosa Immergrün has made an exciting observation that she would like to share, as she has been pondering a question for a long time: what does loyalty behaviour actually mean in the beech forest of the Buchians?
The secret of autumn in the leaves
"Look," calls Rosa Periwinkle, holding a particularly pretty leaf in her hand. It is purple-red and shimmers in the pale afternoon light. "Every year, we see the leaves leave the trees and dance through the air. But something special happens in the heart of the forest every time." Everyone pricks up their ears and moves closer together.
Rosa Periwinkle explains that the Buchians never abandon one of their friends. Even when the autumn wind sweeps wildly through the forest, the forest dwellers protect each other from storms and cold. Those standing in the wind are covered by the others with thick piles of leaves. This is a secret sign that everyone is sticking together. Rosa Periwinkle had seen a small Buchian being caught in a strong gust of wind. Three others immediately came and piled rustling leaves and twigs over him until he was safe and warm.
The sparks of the old storytellers
In the evening, when the beech forest sinks into the grey mist, the ghostly figures of the old storytellers appear. Shimmering points of light dance between the trees. Rosa Periwinkle sits safely among her friends and listens to the stories. The storytellers speak of ancient days when no one knew what faithful behaviour meant. But together they learnt that no one has to stay alone in the Neflental, no matter how hard the wind blows.
Every year, the Buchian beech forest reminds itself of the importance of friendship and solidarity. Rosa Immergrün senses that loyalty is not just a word. It is the feeling of always being there for each other, especially in stormy times.
The light of togetherness in the Neflental valley
As Rosa Immergrün walks home, colourful leaves are still dancing around her feet. The lights of the stories float gently through the air. She now knows that the great autumn secret of Sturmsang lies in everyone's heart. And she is happy that the beech forest of the Buchians will never forget how to stick together in the Neflental.
What do we learn from this?
In the Buchian beech forest, loyalty behaviour shows how important friendship and cohesion are. Especially in autumn, when storms sweep through the Neflental, everyone looks out for everyone else. Rosa Immergrün realises that everyone belongs in the Neflental, that they stay strong together and that no one is left alone. And that is the most beautiful secret in Sturmsang.
