Courage to tell the truth: a story from the Neflental valley

In the Neflental valley, the stars sparkled particularly brightly on the frosty night and were reflected on the crystal lake. The cold made the lake look like a glassy surface. The light shimmered so clearly in the winter air that even the pile dwellings of the Flossians looked like they were made of sparkling ice. Every breath became a small cloud of mist, and the hoar frost transformed the fern forest into a sea of silver-white.

The mysterious frosty night at Crystal Lake

The frosty night had come. The snow-covered forest lay quiet and still. Snowflakes danced softly through the moonlight. It seemed as if they had little shining memories inside them. The ringing of bells could be heard from the valley in the distance. The mountains stood dark and mighty on the horizon.

On the shores of the crystal lake, the Flossians walked across the jetties of their pile dwellings. They lived half in the water, half on land. Their wooden houses stood on strong stilts in the clear water. Shells and pearls adorned the walls in colourful patterns that told stories from the depths.

On this particular evening, Rosa Periwinkle crawled out of the fern forest to the lake. She had promised to accept an invitation from the Flossians. Little butterflies of courage fluttered in her stomach, because she was carrying a secret with her. It was not a nice feeling. She didn't know whether she should tell the truth. But she also knew: courage is being honest, even when it's hard.

The truth in the heart

The Flossians were preparing a party. Colourful lanterns floated on the lake. Shell bows and pearl wreaths glittered in the silver light. At the edge of the fire bowl, the Flossians sang a song that sounded like the lapping of small waves.

Everyone was waiting for Rosa Periwinkle to tell a story. But Rosa sat still. She could feel the cold wind on her cheeks. She knew that she had disappointed her friend Lian because she had accidentally broken his mosaic and then kept quiet. She was afraid that the others might become sad or angry.

The courage to tell the truth was not easy. But she thought about how brightly the stars shone and how they reflected the lake. This is how good friends want to meet each other openly so that hearts can remain open.

Rosa suddenly stood up and looked round. She swallowed briefly, but her voice became firm. "Lian, I have to say something. Your mosaic has broken. It was me. I'm sorry I didn't tell you straight away. I was afraid you wouldn't be my friend anymore." There was a great silence in the circle.

Lian looked at Rosa. He was surprised at first, but then he smiled softly. 'Thank you for being honest. I think it's brave of you to tell the truth,' he said. The glitter of the stars fell on their faces and suddenly the air was lighter again. The others nodded. Everyone had accidentally done something they were sorry for.

So the party at the crystal lake became a special celebration. The music sounded warmer because the ice on Rosa's heart had melted. Snowflakes sparkled in the light, as if they wanted to preserve the memory of this moment forever. And the friends laid a new, even more beautiful mosaic together. The story was captured in beads and shells and is now part of the tales that adorn the pile dwellings.

What do we learn from this?

Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to be honest. But the truth can be like the light of the stars: it brings confidence and new hope. The courage to tell the truth is a gift - for yourself and for everyone you care about. In Neflental, the friends remained close in the frosty night light. And perhaps you can still hear their laughter in the sound of the distant bells.
