The term natural user interface (NUI) originates from the fields of artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality and digital transformation. A natural user interface enables people to interact naturally with computers, machines or software. Instead of using a keyboard or mouse, users can control devices with gestures, speech or even facial expressions and glances.
The aim of natural user interfaces is to make technology invisible and intuitive. This makes it feel as if you are talking to another person or moving an object as normal. Thanks to advances in artificial intelligence, NUIs can now recognise speech, understand gestures and even detect emotions.
An everyday example is voice control on smartphones or smart speakers: you simply say "Play my favourite music" and the device responds immediately. Augmented reality glasses go one step further, allowing you to navigate through layers of digital information on your glasses with a wave of your hand.
Natural User Interface (NUI) makes it easier for all generations to use technology - and opens up new ways for companies to make products and services accessible and user-friendly.
