Obfuscation of AI models describes methods used by developers to disguise their artificial intelligence in such a way that it is more difficult for outsiders to understand or copy them. The aim is usually to protect intellectual property or prevent misuse of the technology. The "disguise" works in a similar way to a chef hiding his secret recipe: the ingredients are there, but the exact composition remains obscure.
An illustrative example: Suppose a company has developed a particularly good AI algorithm that recognises images better than any of its competitors. To prevent others from simply copying this recipe for success, the AI model is obfuscated - for example, by making the code difficult to read or hiding important processes in the model. This protects the real added value and at the same time makes it more difficult for criminals to copy or misuse the code for negative purposes.
In the modern economy, the obfuscation of AI models is an important measure to protect innovation and strengthen cyber security.
