An illustrative example: Suppose a company has developed a particularly good AI algorithm that recognises images better than any of its competitors. To prevent others from simply copying this recipe for success, the AI model is obfuscated - for example, by making the code difficult to read or hiding important processes in the model. This protects the real added value and at the same time makes it more difficult for criminals to copy or misuse the code for negative purposes.
