Perception-as-a-service (Glossary)

(461)

The term perception-as-a-service is primarily used in the fields of artificial intelligence, automation and the Internet of Things. It describes a new service model in which companies use modern sensor technology and AI to collect and analyse information about their environment and provide it as a service.

The principle is simple: instead of having to buy and operate their own sensors, cameras or analysis software, companies rent intelligent perception services - similar to software from the cloud. These services provide information: What is happening in my factory? Which machines are active? Are there any unusual movements or noises? The data is collected and analysed in real time.

An illustrative example: A provider installs sensors and cameras in a warehouse. The software automatically recognises when strangers enter the premises or when large temperature differences occur. Instead of buying individual devices and analysing them themselves, the warehouse owner receives a complete solution as a service.

In this way, perception-as-a-service makes modern monitoring, quality control or process optimisation flexibly usable and saves costs, time and effort for companies - all of which is always at the cutting edge of technology.
