Privacy by design is a principle that is particularly important in the areas of cybercrime and cybersecurity as well as digital society and digital transformation. The term describes the principle of incorporating data protection into the development of new technologies, products or services from the outset - and not as an afterthought.
Instead of seeing data protection as an annoying extra, Privacy by Design ensures that personal data is protected right from the planning stage. This means, for example, that only the data that is really necessary is collected and that this data is well secured.
An illustrative example: When a company develops a new app, it checks which user data is absolutely necessary when designing the app. Unnecessary information is not even requested. The app also ensures that data is transmitted in encrypted form and that users can decide for themselves which information they want to share.
With Privacy by Design, data protection becomes part of the corporate culture. For companies, this means that they not only protect their customers' data, but also strengthen their trust and prevent potential data protection problems.
