The term "robot cell" belongs in the automation, industry and factory 4.0 and robot categories. It describes a demarcated area in a production hall in which one or more robots perform certain tasks automatically. A robot cell is usually equipped with protective devices to keep people and machines safely separated from each other.
A robot cell can be used for welding car parts, for example. Whereas in the past people had to do the heavy and dangerous work, today this is often done fully automatically: a robot arm grips a metal part, a second robot precisely welds the desired seam and, at the end, a third robot takes the finished component for the next step.
As a result, work is completed faster, more consistently and more safely. Companies use robot cells to increase quality, reduce costs and relieve employees of monotonous or dangerous tasks. Robot cells are therefore an important building block for modern, flexible and competitive production in Industry 4.0.
