The Saudi Arabia-led coalition has launched an all-out attack on the rebel-held port of Hudaydah in the Yemen started. The coastal city is vital, as most aid supplies for people in the rebel-held regions arrive from here. Aid organisations have warned that the attack could disrupt these supply lines and endanger the lives of up to 200,000 people in the city. Eight million people across Yemen are already at risk of starvation.
On Wednesday, coalition warplanes and warships attacked fortifications in the city, while pro-government Yemeni fighters and troops from Sudan and the United Arab Emirates massed in the south. Given the significance of the attack, the following infographic takes a look at the scale of the Air strikes on Yemena campaign that has been going on for more than three years. The highest number of airstrikes by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Morocco and other coalition partners was recorded in September 2015 with a total of 920 airstrikes. In April of this year, the figure was just under 400.
Reliable statistics on the war in Yemen are notoriously hard to come by. This infographic was created on the basis of data from Al Jazeera and the Yemen Data Project a non-profit organisation that monitors the airstrikes in Yemen.
