Self-discipline adventure on the fern meadows of Immergrün: learning patience at the height of splendour

It was a glorious high in Neflental. The golden sun was high in the sky and the light danced in gold and amber across the vast fern meadows of Immergrün. The small houses of the Immergrüns shimmered between the giant bracken ferns. Anyone standing on John Immergrün's roof terrace could see the glistening waves of the lake on whose shores the Flossians lived.

On this day, summer blazed across the land like a warm smile. Many colourful revellers sat by the water, wearing dresses in sun gold, sapphire blue and emerald green. Lanterns floated silently above them like glowing dragonflies in the twilight. Rosa Periwinkle was in the centre of it all. She skipped with quick steps through the tall sea of ferns, which sparkled with golden light on this day.

A special task for Rosa Immergrün

A challenge awaited at the fern meadow. Today Rosa Immergrün wanted to show how she can master patience. The elders had found a small fern bud. It should only be picked when the flower opens completely in the sunlight. That wasn't easy at all. Many periwinkles wanted to take the sparkling blossom home too soon. But Rosa Periwinkle knew that it was worth the wait.

So she sat down on a soft mound of moss among the eagle ferns. She watched as the sun painted golden stripes through the air. From time to time, friends looked past, laughed or threw fern fronds into the air. Rosa Periwinkle remained silent. She breathed calmly and looked at the bud.

The art of patience

Many hours passed and it became warmer and warmer. The leaves of the bud trembled slightly in the wind. Suddenly, Rosa Periwinkle wanted to grab it. But she remembered the words of the oldest periwinkle lady: "Only those who wait will see the true miracle." So she folded her hands carefully and sang a little song.

Other periwinkles sometimes ran past impatiently and shouted: "Why don't you pick the flower at last?" But Rosa Periwinkle just smiled and kept waiting. She knew that every flower has its own moment. She could still hear the rippling of the lake and the distant laughter of the Flossians. The colours around her became more and more vibrant: sun gold, coral red, emerald green and sapphire blue shone everywhere.

The great miracle in the golden light

After a while, the little fern bud began to open. Very slowly at first, then faster and faster, it unfurled one petal after the other. In the sunlight, it looked like a star made of gold. Rosa Periwinkle was so happy that her heart leapt with pride. She had shown patience - and discovered the wonderful secret of Periwinkle's fern meadows.

She waited until the oldest periwinkle lady arrived. Together they picked the flower. The woman nodded with appreciation. "You have shown that self-discipline often brings great miracles. Those who have patience see more than others." Rosa Periwinkle felt how proud she was of herself. She had not only gained a flower, but also an important lesson.

Practising patience is sometimes difficult, but it's worth it. Just as Rosa Periwinkle learnt on the fern meadows of Periwinkle in the golden glamour high: If you wait, you can discover wonderful things and get to know yourself better.
