Sensor networks in robotics are particularly at home in the fields of robotics, automation and the Internet of Things.

A sensor network consists of many small sensors that are connected to each other and collect and exchange data together. In robotics, these networks help the robot to better perceive its environment and react to changes. The sensors measure temperature, distance, light or pressure, for example, and pass this information on to the robot's controller.

This enables a robot to recognise whether an obstacle is in the way, a door has been opened or a person is approaching. Sensor networks make robots more flexible and safer to use because they quickly and reliably record a lot of information at the same time.

An illustrative example: In modern warehouses, robots move independently through the aisles. They use their sensor networks to detect obstacles, other robots and shelves. This enables them to avoid collisions and transport the desired goods efficiently.

Sensor networks in robotics are therefore an important component in the use of intelligent, flexible and safe robots in many areas.
