Situation-aware AI is a term from the fields of artificial intelligence, automation, industry and Factory 4.0. It describes a particularly advanced form of AI systems that not only analyse data, but also understand the respective situation in which they are used and can react flexibly to it.
In contrast to conventional AI, which only works according to fixed rules, situation-aware AI recognises what is happening around it, draws the right conclusions and adapts its behaviour accordingly. This makes it particularly useful in areas where quick, situational decisions are required - for example in an automated factory where robots need to recognise unexpected changes or react immediately to faults.
One example: In a modern car factory, a situation-aware AI monitors the entire production line. Suddenly, an important machine breaks down. While a normal AI might simply stop the process, the situation-aware AI analyses what the problem is, checks alternative workflows and decides independently how best to continue so that production is interrupted as little as possible.
Situation-aware AI helps companies to work faster, safer and more efficiently.
