Achieving your goal with perseverance: a story from the Neflental valley

It was a very special day in the Neflental valley. The sun sent its golden rays onto the wide plateau. It was a glorious high, the most beautiful festival of the year. The flowers in the Bernblütenhain glowed a vibrant yellow, as if the sky was on the ground. Rivers and small lakes glistened around the grove, reflecting the light like dancing sparks of fire. Everywhere smelled of sweet honey and fresh summer rain.

Colourful lanterns floated gently through the twilight. Children laughed, adults decorated baskets with sapphire blue, coral red and emerald green ribbons. On the banks of the river, all the friends of the valley sat together and some sang soft songs. Rosa Periwinkle sat among them. But this year she had a big goal.

The great mystery of the glamour festival

Every year, a riddle was solved at the Glanzhoch festival. Anyone who managed to solve it could make a wish. The prize was an amber light that brought luck for a whole year. Rosa Immergrün was determined to solve the riddle. But even the first clue was difficult. Three golden flowers had to be found in the amber blossom grove. But they all looked the same, and bees were buzzing and butterflies were dancing everywhere.

Many friends gave up after a while. They preferred to dance, make a fire or take a cool dip in the river. Rosa Periwinkle, however, stopped, looked around and thought carefully. Then she spotted a tiny glimmer at the very back of the largest bushes.

With courage and endurance through the Bernblütenhain

Rosa Periwinkle went there, even though the flowers were very dense. With quiet steps, she carefully pushed aside branches and heard her heart pounding. The sweet scent of honey grew stronger and stronger. She actually discovered the first golden blossom, which was being kept company by a bee. Rosa Periwinkle thanked the bee kindly and continued her search.

The second flower was even harder to find. It was already getting dark and the lanterns bathed the grove in a mysterious light. Her friends called out to her as the party got more and more fun, but Rosa Periwinkle didn't give up. She remembered that the reward for persevering often only became apparent at the end. After a while, she found the second flower on the bank of a crystal-clear pond, where little dragonflies were dancing.

The last golden blossom was hidden in the shade, very close to the old tree stump that nobody wanted to pass. Rosa Periwinkle bravely climbed over a few roots, although it was a little wobbly. At last she held the third golden blossom in her hands and her heart leapt for joy!

Sparks of fire and a wish

Rosa Periwinkle returned to the revellers with the three flowers. The sun had now set and stars were dancing in the sky. The villagers cheered when they saw the blossoms. The amber light shone brightly and Rosa Periwinkle was allowed to think about her wish.

She wished that everyone in the Neflental would keep their courage and hope when something doesn't work right away. Because now she knew: If you persevere in pursuit of your goal, you can achieve almost anything. The amber sparks around the bonfire were particularly bright that night.

What do we learn from this?

Sometimes it takes a little longer to reach your goal. Others give up quickly because they get tired or don't feel like it anymore. But if you keep at it, keep going courageously and take small steps, you can win in the end. With perseverance, you can achieve great things - just like Rosa Immergrün in Neflental at the glamour festival in the Bernblütenhain.
