Telerobotics is particularly at home in the fields of automation, robots and Industry 4.0. The term describes technologies that can be used to control machines or robots remotely. This means that a person can operate a robot at a completely different location, for example via the internet or special wireless connections.
Telerobotics are used where humans cannot work directly or where it would be dangerous. An illustrative example is maintenance at a nuclear power plant: instead of exposing people to the risk of radiation, a technician can control the robot from a safe distance to carry out repairs. Telerobotics is also used in medicine, for example in operations where surgeons operate a robotic arm from another city.
Telerobotics thus enables greater safety, saves travelling costs and makes precision work at a distance possible. In modern industry in particular, telerobotics helps to make production processes more efficient and flexible. This enables companies to adapt more quickly to new requirements and make workplaces safer.
