The number of people who have pre-ordered a Tesla and received a refund has increased. That's according to analysts from a company called Second Measure, which analyses credit card data. As our infographic shows, Tesla has delivered around 316,300 vehicles since the third quarter of 2012. In the first quarter of 2018, around 35,000 cars were produced, of which, according to Tesla itself 29,980 have already been delivered to customers worldwide.

Analysts attribute the high number of refunded deposits in the first quarter of 2018 to the long waiting periods of 4 to 12 months. High customer refunds are a drag on Tesla, as more than a third of the company's cash on hand consists of customer deposits, and the rising number of refunds is higher than the stagnant number of new monthly deposits. In addition, federal tax credits for the purchase of Tesla's this year as the company is expected to sell its 200,000th car in America alone in 2018.
