After a Investigation Tencent is the publicly traded company with the highest revenue from the Video games worldwide. Last year, the Chinese giant generated more than 18 billion dollars with its games, significantly more than Sony (10.5 billion dollars) and Apple (8 billion dollars). Tencent has prioritised investments in games companies in recent years and has acquired significant stakes in Riot Games (2011), Epic Games (2012), CK Games (2015) and Robot Entertainment (2015).
Tencent gave its gaming revenue a further boost last spring when it launched WeGame, its own gaming portal that hosts games and offers purchases, downloads, streaming and services. Microsoft is in fourth place in the Newzoo ranking with game sales of 7.1 billion dollars, while Call of Duty and World of Warcraft developer Activision is in fifth place with 6.5 billion dollars. EA and Nintendo, two well-known names among gamers, come in eighth and ninth place with 5.1 and 3.6 billion dollars respectively.
