Touch sensor technology (Glossary)

(1272)

Touch sensor technology is particularly at home in the areas of Industry and Factory 4.0 as well as the Internet of Things. The term describes technologies with which touch can be recognised and converted into electrical signals. Such sensors react to pressure or the mere approach of a finger. This allows machines, devices or surfaces to be controlled without the need for traditional buttons or switches.

An everyday example of touch sensor technology is the smartphone display, which reacts to taps or swipes. Touch sensors can also be found on the modern factory floor, for example on machines, making them very easy and safe to operate. Employees can change settings or processes without touching them or with a light tap - this saves time and increases safety.

Touch sensor technology enables many new applications: from smart light switches in buildings to innovative control systems for production lines. Especially in combination with the Internet of Things, it ensures that devices become more intelligent and flexible. In short, touch sensor technology makes it easier to use technology and makes many digital solutions user-friendly.
