The term inference-as-a-service originates from the fields of artificial intelligence, big data, smart data and digital transformation. It describes a service that enables companies to easily integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their own applications without having to be experts themselves.
Instead of setting up an expensive AI infrastructure itself, a company can use an external platform that takes over the so-called "inferencing" - i.e. making predictions or recognising patterns using AI. The data is sent to the platform, the AI calculates the result and sends it back.
An example: An online shop wants to predict which products a customer might like best. With the help of inference-as-a-service, customer data is sent to an external AI service. The service quickly analyses the information and creates customised product recommendations. In this way, the shop benefits from advanced AI technology without having to maintain in-depth expertise or complex technology itself.
With inference-as-a-service, artificial intelligence becomes accessible, time-saving and flexible for many companies - an essential building block of the digital future.
