Social robots (Glossary)

(1087)

Social robots are particularly at home in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital society and robots. They are specially developed robots that have been created to communicate with humans and take on social tasks. Unlike traditional industrial robots, which only operate heavy machinery, social robots can speak, listen, imitate gestures and even recognise emotions like little companions.

One example from everyday life is the social robot "Pepper". It is used in some shops or care homes to greet visitors, answer simple questions or entertain residents. Social robots react to voice tone, facial expressions or movements and thus create a human-like interaction. They can help to reduce loneliness, perform simple assistance tasks or support children's learning in educational institutions.

Through the use of social robots, digital technologies can be experienced directly by many people. They are important examples of how advanced technology can enrich our daily lives - not through pure function, but through social interaction and support. Future trends show that social robots will play an increasingly important role in our everyday lives.
