Story from the Neflental: The great test in the glamour high
At the height of summer, when the Neflental is at its brightest, meadows, forests and lakes glow gold and sapphire blue. The sun's rays dance on the water and the air shimmers almost like amber. The inhabitants of the valley sit on the banks and celebrate together. Colourful lanterns are flying everywhere. The young friends in Neflental are looking forward to the most beautiful and colourful time of the year.
In the middle of this happy time, Rosa Periwinkle hears about the "Great Test of Learning Champions". Everyone who takes part can show what they have learnt this year. The children and young people are already very excited. Because the best group gets to open the festival at the end and let the first lantern rise into the summer light. Rosa Immergrün doesn't think twice and signs up with her friends.
Willingness to learn in the Bernblütenhain
On the morning of the big exam, all the groups meet in the Bernblütenhain. There is a sweet scent of honey and summer everywhere, and the golden-yellow flowers are in full bloom. The air is warm and full of anticipation. Rosa Immergrün immediately realises how many of the valley's inhabitants are already busy practising. Some are repeating the multiplication tables, others are reading stories or solving puzzles.
But a few children murmur: "I'll never manage that! Learning is exhausting and too hard!" Rosa Immergrün smiles and says: "But learning together is always more fun. Start small and stay curious! Ask questions if you don't understand something. That way it gets easier every time."
How to become a learning champion!
The tasks begin. Sometimes the children stumble because they can't solve a question. Then they look at each other and think together. Rosa Immergrün always suggests: "Let's think out loud and share our ideas! If we don't know what to do right away, let's not give up." Every correct solution brings joy - even small mistakes are allowed, because the teams learn the most from them.
Their courage grows with every puzzle. All the children cheer when they finally complete a particularly difficult task. They soon realise how much fun learning can be because everyone sticks together and nobody gives up. Some love maths, others love tricky words - everyone brings something special to the table.
Lanterns rise to the sky when learning succeeds
When the exam ends, Rosa Periwinkle and her friends sit in a circle. They are a little exhausted, but very proud. The first campfire flickers on the shore of the small lake and the lanterns are colourfully painted. At sunset, the best learning champion is chosen. But Rosa Periwinkle knows that everyone who has tried is a winner. Because they were brave and never gave up.
The golden summer air lights up as the children let their lanterns rise. Everyone can see the colourful lights gliding up into the sky - a picture that encourages them to keep setting themselves new challenges. Together you can do anything! A willingness to learn ensures this: those who remain curious, practise, ask questions and work together with others become learning champions themselves in the Neflental.
What do we learn from this?
Even if it is sometimes difficult, it is worth trying out new things and not giving up. Learning together with friends is fun. Mistakes are part of it, and practice helps us to get better. If we are curious, ask courageous questions and always do our best, we can all become small or large learning champions - not only in the Neflental, but wherever we remain curious.
