Since the release of the first iPhone in 2007, smartphones have gradually taken over our lives. We use them to listen to music, take photos, follow the news and sometimes even make phone calls. They have become a constant presence in our professional and private lives. However, the endless stream of information and stimuli coming from our phones is affecting our ability to focus on one task at a time, which is why many people feel the need to limit their phone use.
According to one of Deloitte survey conducted in 2017, 47 per cent of US smartphone owners have tried to limit their phone usage in the past. The most popular ways to do this are to keep the phone out of sight in a pocket and switch off notifications. However, the lure of Twitter, Instagram and the like is hard to resist: Only 30 per cent of smartphone owners have managed to reduce their phone time.
