Increase website traffic with article marketing

5
(4)

You've written great articles for your website or blog, keyword-rich, insightful articles that should be covered in marketing class. You've probably noticed an increase in traffic to your website since you've been writing with the help of SEO. But there's another way to leverage the articles you're already writing to drive traffic even further. Publish them on other websites.

It's a simple calculation. Your website receives 200 hits per day. Website B gets 500. If you publish an article on Website B, your website and your marketing links will be read by 700 people. Unfortunately, this is often easier said than done. You have to convince the editor or webmaster of Website B that your article is worth publishing more than Joe Schmoe's on the same topic. If you think you can do that, then you can start your own article marketing campaign and drive traffic to your website. Here are some tips on how to sell articles for your article marketing campaign.

ARTICLE MARKETING BEGINS WITH AN E-MAIL TO A PUBLISHING SITE

Email has become one of the fastest forms of communication. We type it out very quickly, using the first words and phrases that come to mind, and then send it off without a second thought, as if we were leaving a voice message. But in the case of article marketing (and anything else you use email for), the email is the first sample of writing a buyer reads. If your email isn't professional and well-written, there's no reason for the buyer to bother with the actual article. You will have failed to make that all-important first impression.

This failure can be avoided if you take the time to edit the email. Make sure there are no grammatical errors, that your sentences make sense and that you don't need more words. Other things like an eye-catching subject line or addressing the email to a specific person instead of a company or a "To Whom It May Concern" can also help your article stand out from the crowd.

MARKET YOUR ARTICLES ON THE CORRESPONDING WEBSITES

This sounds like a no-brainer, but at least now you can't say that no one pointed it out to you. Make sure you send your articles to the places that will actually publish them. This applies to content, of course (don't send an article about New York high society to a mountaineer's website), but also to style, language and the like.

If you're an edgy, sarcastic writer, you probably don't want to submit to a reputable, boring website. They simply won't publish your article there and your article marketing campaign would be for naught. Also, don't just write an article and then try to get it published. While this method may produce some results, they tend to be sparse and require a lot of time and effort to sell. Instead, write your articles with a specific website in mind. Read other articles on that website.

Familiarise yourself with the language and structure of previously published articles. Read the guidelines for submitting articles. Familiarise yourself with the guidelines. Explain in the email why your article is a perfect fit for the website. An article written specifically for a particular website or group of websites will be more successful than an article written without a specific target.

GRAMMAR, GRAMMAR, GRAMMAR

The point of article marketing is to convince people to click on the link to your website that you have provided in your byline. You will lose a lot of credibility if your article is full of grammatical errors and poorly thought out sentences. Write several drafts of your articles. Make sure you actually say what you mean.

If your article is perfect, have someone else read it to make sure you're not blind. You'll be amazed at what you miss in your own text, even if you're a professional editor. This will A. increase the likelihood that editors will accept your work and B. give the reader the impression that you are professional, which in turn will lead them to try to find out what else you have to say.

REFER TO YOUR OTHER ARTICLE WITH LINKS

If you can, include links in the body of your email that lead back to your website. After all, that's the whole point of article marketing. A good way to do this is to link to an article you've written in the past that "just happens" to be published on your website. People like more information, and if you tell them there's more on another website, there's a good chance they'll go there, and you've just landed another hit. Be careful not to overuse this technique.

Too many links make them mundane and readers don't notice them. One or two links make them special and probably worthwhile. Don't link to irrelevant articles either. Readers will only get annoyed and stop browsing your website. The goal of article marketing is to attract visitors to your website. If they land on a random article, they will simply close the window and return to what they were reading instead of stumbling across your affiliate marketing links.

SIGN YOUR WORK

Never forget the signature or byline at the end of your article. This should of course include your name, but also a link directly to the homepage of your website. You can also link to some related articles that are published on your website. Anyone who enjoyed the article will take the time to see who wrote it and what their background or own personal endeavours are, and chances are they'll click on the link to read more from you. The "signature" section is the culmination of your article marketing campaign. This is where you try to direct readers with your article so that they see your links, visit your website and make you money. It's as simple as that.
