Last year, China announced that it would no longer import plastic waste into the country, and how a new Analysis shows that this is a major problem for the rest of the world. From 1988 to 2016, China imported 171 million tonnes of this surprisingly valuable raw material. With a total trade value of 81 billion dollars, that's 72% of all plastic waste imported in that period.
Despite recent efforts by some governments to reduce consumption, the extent of the global Plastic waste enormous and will remain so for some time to come. Until this changes, many countries will have to make new plans for their waste disposal or, alternatively, plans to fill the massive gap in the market left by China.
